Beautiful festive cakes are very often decorated with voluminous fondant figures. These can be figures of a baby for the birth of a child, figures of a bride and groom for a wedding, or simply the favorite cartoon characters of your child. It is good if you naturally have the ability to beautifully sculpt the desired figure, or you have taken a modeling course, or maybe graduated from an art school. But even with all these skills, the process is very time-consuming. Therefore, fondant molds will become a good helper for you.
We can say that these are special silicone molds that will allow you to create a figure of the desired shape and texture. Before use, be sure to check that there is no water on the mold, otherwise the figure may stick. We also recommend using fondant that hardens quickly.
The process itself involves the following steps:
To avoid the same sticking, carefully dust the mold with powdered sugar or starch using a brush.
Knead the fondant so that it becomes soft.
Fill the mold. In some cases, it is convenient to do this immediately with a whole piece, in others gradually, it all depends on the complexity of the future figure.
When the silicone mold is filled, remove the excess fondant. Note that molds can consist of either one or two parts. In the first case, just cut off the excess with a sharp knife. In the second, you should remove the excess from both parts and connect them. Everything must be done quickly before the fondant hardens.
The figures need to dry. To do this, you can leave them overnight just on the table, or send them to the freezer for 15 minutes (usually this time is enough).
When the figure hardens, you can start painting.
